KitchenAid Diamond Blender Review

Overview Of The KitchenAid Diamond Blender

This blender is not just for silky smoothies; The KitchenAid Diamond Blender promises to slice through frozen food, whole fruits, vegetables, meat, biscuits and bread. The KitchenAid Diamond Blender says it can handle hot or frozen foods and will make food preparation so much easier for basically any recipe.

It is reasonable priced, reliable enough for every day use and suitable for someone who wants a multifunction blender – not just a smoothie blender.

Specifications, Design And Features

Named the ‘Diamond’ after its durability, this blender comes with some of the same design features as the famous ‘Artisan’ blender, but with some new, helpful additions.

The glass jug is gone and it is replaced with a more light weight BPA free plastic pitcher. This pitcher has four blades and its capacity is more generous at 1.75 litres or 60 oz. A great feature are the clearly visible measurements marked on both the front and back. These measurements are in cups, ounces and milliliters.

The KitchenAid Diamond Blender also comes with a tight-fitting push-on lid as well as a detachable measuring cup.

The buttons on the front panel are angular and sleek. The functions are represented by symbols only but are easy to understand even without checking the manual.

The five buttons displayed across the top control the main functions which are:

  • Hot Food
  • Chop
  • Mix
  • Puree
  • Liquify –

There is also a Crush Ice and Pulse function which sits to the side of the power button.

Like most KitchenAid models the base itself is made from die-cast metal and is available in four colours: Empire Red, Onyx Black, Almond Cream or Contour Silver.

The power cable is 114cm long and can store underneath the base. The long cord is always helpful when your kitchen is short on power outlets or you have to share.

The machine is fairly compact however it is tall due to the size of the jug. You may need to store the pitcher separately to the base if you want to place it in a cabinet but otherwise, this can live on your countertop. It weighs approximately 4.5kg so it is on the heavy side but is still light enough to move around.

No recipe book is included however the instruction manual does include helpful hints

Practical aspects – what is the KitchenAid Diamond Blender like to use?

Putting the machine together is simple and easy. The pitcher twists and locks into the base. The lid pushes onto the top and the measuring cup swivels into the centre. The lid has a loop to pull it off again as there are no interlocking grooves – this also makes it easier to pull off. The lid completely closes off the pitcher, including the spout to prevent spillage.

The chop function wasn’t as consistent as a food processer and required smaller portions of food, and frequent scraping to achieve an even result. When left to its own devices, the food at the bottom clumped and the food at the top was only roughly chopped.

The hot food function works very well. While the top speed of 11,500 rpm is very noisy it does produce a very smooth, pleasant consistency for soups. A test on carrot and lentil soup resulted in a thick, restaurant standard meal. The straight sides of the jug makes it easier to scrape down.

The crush ice function is a pulsing pattern that starts out slowly and grinds the ice into a flaky snow rather than turning it to cold water. This would make excellent flavoured slush or cocktails.

The liquefy function can turn frozen fruits into a lovely dessert. It look a little longer than the crush ice function but resulted in a nice blended frozen yoghurt that only needed a little extra freeze time after it was blended for a yummy dessert.

Clean up was simple. The KitchenAid Diamond Blender can be hand washed or cleaned in the dishwasher. The metal base means it is easy to wipe down to remove spills or splatters.
